Policy Institute Comments on California Automated Vehicle Pilot

The UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment, and the Economy submitted comment to the State of California with support from the 3 Revolutions Policy Initiative. The comments were submitted to the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) regarding several key topics: 

The Future of California's Super Commuters

"There’s simply not enough housing to live in the Bay Area, and even housing units are very expensive," Circella said. "So, a lot of lower-income workers cannot afford to live in San Francisco and they need to commute long distances."  Circella said their research shows that in the next 20 to 30 years, traffic is expected to become much worse. The amount of people commuting is expected to increase due to the Bay Area's strong economy and innovation providing more jobs.

Uber Linked to a Reduction in Serious Road Traffic Injuries in the UK

The study, a collaboration between researchers at Oxford, Bocconi University, and the University of California-Davis, exploited differences in the timing of the deployment of Uber across Britain to test the association between the advent of Uber’s services and rate of fatal and non-fatal accidents in those areas.
