Planning for Transportation Decarbonization Workshop (Invite Only)

Event Description:

The UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment, and the Economy (Policy Institute) In partnership with the ClimateWorks Foundation plans to catalog transportation policies from local and regional governments, and quantify the greenhouse gas impacts of city policies.

We would like our findings to be useful to participants in city and regional planning efforts to update climate mitigation goals and to establish what the most effective policies are. The types of policy options in our catalogue will cover transit, micromobility scooters and bikes, transportation network companies, managed lanes, congestion pricing, and zero-emission vehicles, among others.

The Policy Institute is hosting a workshop series inviting small groups of city staff from over 30 cities across the country to identify policy goals, successes, and implementation barriers. The findings from these workshops will be used to develop an issue paper, as well as inform future research on shared-mobility and micromobility.

We’d be honored to have you join us to discuss your cities transportation goals and successes, as well as have the opportunity to collaborate with other cities.

Questions for discussion:

  • What transportation policies have been most successful in reducing VMT in your city? How does your city measure VMT reduction?
  • What is your cities’ process for monitoring and performance indicators? Are these processes applied across your sustainability policies?
  • What are some of the implementation barriers your city has faced?
  • What support would your city need from state or regional governments to implement more VMT reduction policies?
  • How has your transit system changed since COVID-19? For example: Has ridership decreased? Has service decreased? Has commuting patterns changed (ie. are people using micro mobility more versus a public transit system)?
  • Which future transportation policy areas do you see your city pursuing to reduce VMT or GHG emissions? (scooters, dockless bikes, parking pricing, managed lanes, ZEV)
  • How are your transportation policies incorporating equity? How do you think equity can be considered further?
