Investigation of Emerging Transportation Trends in Latin America Countries

Giovanni Circella

This project will launch a new data collection and analysis in cooperation with the Universidad de Chile to investigate the adoption of new shared mobility solutions, and ride-hailing in particular, in the metropolitan area of Santiago. Among the purposes of the project is the investigation of the impacts that the use of new on-demand mobility solutions have on the use of other modes, including taxi services and public transportation, the role of peer's influence in affecting these patterns, and the way travel behaviors differ across various population groups, including low-income households who cannot afford a vehicle, young students and emerging middle-class users and members of the more affluent households. A potential extension of this study that focuses on Colombia is planned in the near future.
