Basar Ozbilen, Ph.D.

Basar Ozbilen is the Assistant Director of the 3 Revolutions Future Mobility (3RFM) program and an Assistant Professional Researcher at the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on travel behavior, emerging transportation technologies, and the future of mobility, with particular emphasis on automated vehicles, shared mobility, and digital lifestyles.

At 3RFM, Basar leads and contributes to research initiatives examining how emerging technologies and changing lifestyles are reshaping transportation. His current work investigates the adoption and deployment of automated and shared mobility services, their implications for travel demand and transportation systems, mobility data and governance, and how cities and public agencies can prepare for emerging forms of mobility. A second major area of his research examines residential relocation, remote and hybrid work, and other digital activities and their long-term implications for travel behavior and transportation demand.

Basar works extensively with public agencies, industry, and academic partners in the United States and internationally. He also organizes and contributes to national and international forums that bring together researchers, policymakers, transportation agencies, and industry leaders to advance dialogue on automated mobility and identify pathways for deploying emerging technologies in ways that serve broader public goals. 

His research has been published in leading transportation and urban research journals, including Transportation Research Part A, Transportation Research Part D, Sustainable Cities and Society, and Travel Behaviour and Society. He holds a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University and master's and bachelor's degrees in planning from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
