Description

We are launching a data collection in selected regions of the US, Chile, Germany and the United Kingdom to investigate the rapid changes in the adoption and frequency of use of shared mobility services, including ridehailing, carsharing, bikesharing, and e-scooter sharing. We will evaluate their impacts on the use of other means of transportation among different groups of users.  Apart from questions on shared mobility, we will include questions on AVs in the survey. We will investigate the impact of attitudes and preferences on the potential use of AVs among various population groups, in these diverse locations. Moreover, this study will shed light on other topics, including the evolving impacts of new shared mobility services on travel behavior and vehicle ownership, exploring the link between the built environment and new mobility services and understanding e-shopping behavior in these locations. Among the purposes of the project is the investigation of the impacts that the use of new on-demand mobility solutions have on the use of other modes, including taxi services and public transportation, the role of peer's influence in affecting these patterns, and the way travel behaviors differ across various population groups, including low-income households who cannot afford a vehicle, young students and emerging middle-class users and members of the more affluent households.
